Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks can provide added functionality to the users of your output documents by allowing them to easily navigate to other linked locations.

You may also link to email addresses that when clicked, will open the default mail program with a new email to the linked email recipient.

1) Static Hyperlinks

Any ordinary hyperlink that exists in a template will appear unchanged in the final document.

2) Dynamic Hyperlinks

Regular Hyperlinks

Hyperlinks set by input data take the form <<link:FIELDNAME>> where FIELDNAME is the name of the corresponding URL in the input data.

The template field contains: <<link:URL1>>

The JSON data contains: "URL1":"https://www.amazon.com"

Display Text

The text displayed in the hyperlink may be set to something other than the destination URL.

In the template <<link:URL2>> is replaced by the text “eBay”, but this text is a hyperlink to the website “https://www.ebay.com”.

This is controlled by using a pipe symbol (|) in the data: "URL2":"eBay|https://www.ebay.com", to separate the value that is displayed from the URL.

Email Hyperlinks

When a hyperlink with a mailto: URL is clicked, generally the computer’s default mail client will be opened with a new blank email to the target email address.

In the example, the display text has been used to only display the email address instead of the full URL of the email address.
